After the run, children can enjoy a tasty popsicle and art activities as well as Bake Sale. Leading up to the event, MVCS PE teachers help “train” the students to run the mile as part of PE class. For questions, please contact cincodemile@mvcspta.org.

International Night (May)

One of our favorite and most highly-attended events celebrates the diversity of the world’s nations and the heritage of many of our school families. Kids who attend receive a special passport which they can have stamped for each country featured at the tables set up throughout our school hallways. Each country table features photos, facts, foods, instruments, arts and crafts, coins, videos, puzzles, games and other emblems and activities. We come together as a community in our cafeterias to share international cuisine provided by local restaurants. Volunteers to help set up, run activity tables, distribute food, and break down will be solicited closer to the event. For questions, please contact programs@mvcspta.org.

Bingo Night (December and February)

During the winter, the PTA organizes kid and family-friendly Bingo Night events (typically 2) held in the MVCS School Cafeteria after school hours to raise money but more importantly have fun! Bingo cards, pizza, drinks and bake sale items are available for purchase on site.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Below are some of the PTA sponsored or led programs or activities throughout the school year.

Blessings in a Backpack

This program serves families in our community who struggle with food insecurity. Blessings in a Backpack (BIAB) is a national program designed to supply kids with food for the weekend. Free meals are currently available during the week at school, but for many kids, there is a real risk of not having enough to eat over the weekend. With the very generous support of the PTA, individual parents, and neighbors, MVCS’s BIAB program puts together two-days’ worth of meals and snacks for over 125 kids each week during the school year. We have been lucky to have the enthusiastic support of school staff (who identify the kids who need this help the most and discreetly distribute the bags each week) and wonderful volunteers who come in once a week to pack the bags. For more information about the program or how to volunteer, please email biab@mvcspta.org.

Health + Wellness

Our PTA coordinates activities designed to inspire healthy habits and social-emotional well-being for our kids. Some of the activities that the committee has overseen in the past include the Bike Rodeo, Safe Routes to School, healthy food tastings, dental screening, optical care, and lice treatment and prevention.

Spiritwear

Show your MVCS pride by sporting MVCS spirit wear! The PTA sells red, blue and white kid and adult-size shirts, hoodies and other items throughout the year.  Products are available at the PTA Store and will be delivered via your student. Any questions, please contact spiritwear@mvcspta.org.

Teacher / Staff Appreciation

We LOVE our teachers and staff! We are always looking for creative and meaningful ways to let our teachers, paraprofessionals and school staff know how much we value them and everything they do for our kids. The PTA provides mini-grants/reimbursements to help new and returning teachers purchase supplies not funded by ACPS or MVCS. We host back-to-school lunches with community restaurants and healthy snacks and food for parent-teacher conferences to keep them sustained during the back-to-back meetings. We celebrate our school staff with lunches on their special day. If interested in being on the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee, contact president@mvcspta.org.

Uniform Closet

The MVCS Uniform Closet provides families with FREE school uniform clothing for students. We welcome and appreciate donations of gently worn, used or new uniform pieces. If you have clothing to donate or if your child needs clothing, please contact Rosa Landeros, MVCS Parent liaison.

Anuario

PTA volunteers curate photos and memories from throughout the year then design our colorful and treasured school yearbook. The yearbook features school pictures taken in the fall in addition to photos submitted by parent, teachers and volunteers. With that said, we are always looking for photos to feature in the yearbook! First day of school, classroom projects, playground fun, school activities – we would love to see them all! For questions, contact: yearbook@mvcspta.org.
