Join Us: Reflections Art Night, October 17, 2014

All families are invited to join us at Reflections Art Night on Friday, October 17, 2014, from 6 – 8 p.m. This fun event kicks off the annual arts contest for Mount Vernon students sponsored by the MVCS PTA that is affiliated with the National PTA Reflections program. Pizza will be served. How it works: For one night, MVCS PTA provides art supplies/equipment with stations all over school for students, their siblings, and any friends to join in and create art. If your child can’t attend the event, they can still enter the contest! Entry forms will be available in school and online. Info to follow over the coming weeks. Submissions are due November 7, 2014. All entries must be based on a theme. This year’s theme is: “The world would be a better place if…” “El mundo sería un lugar mejor si…” First-place winning artwork in two separate age categories move on for judging against other ACPS schools and those first-place winners compete against other Northern Virginia schools, then statewide schools, etc. Volunteers needed: We expect over 250 plus people will attend on October 17 and we need you help to make it a great night! No art expertise is required, just adult hands-on interaction and friendly supervision. Here’s how you can help: Distributing food/drink in the cafeteria. Assistance at the Visual Arts tables in the cafeteria. Extra help at all the stations primarily upstairs in the music rooms and in the auditorium for the Dance Choreography station. Supervising contest entry forms distribution and helping students/parents fill them out. More information: Contact event co-chairs Carolyn Alers and Karen...

There will be stations around school in each category for all students and their siblings to participate. Note: Siblings can participate, but only MVCS students can formally enter the contest. This year we are adding a special art category for the MVCS in-school contest only: Sculpture! More details on all the categories, contest rules and deadlines will be posted soon.
