Flamingo Flocking is the perfect way to show you care! When you choose to flock your friends and family, a surprise flock of flamingos shows up overnight. Your loved ones wake up to 40 decorated flamingos and a large sign letting them know that they’ve been “flocked.” The flamingos hang around for three days, and then are taken away as silently as they appear. A three-day flocking costs $50, but the cost is tax deductible (and you are allowed to contribute more!). To sign up to have your friends and family flocked please email us at: email@example.com
The PTA oversees programs and activities aimed at keeping our kids healthy and happy. Some of the activities that the committee has overseen in the past, or that the PTA may consider for this year are: The “Bike Rodeo,” Family Health & Wellness Day, Girls on the Run, Safe Routes to School, Walking or Running Club, Advocacy for Improving, School Lunches, Kids’ Yoga, ZAP Tag Program, Walk-or-Bike-to-School Days, Dental Screenings, Flu Vaccine Clinic, and The Walking-Home Club for Bus Riders. If you’d like to help, contact School Nurse Lisa Clausen.
As part of the Marine Corps Marathon, each year MVCS students participate in the 1-mile fun run, held at the Pentagon. Participants receive a medal and the five local schools with the most runners each receive a monetary prize. Contact Holly Hartell.
Celebrate the diversity of the world’s nations. In previous years we spotlighted Korea, Spain, and Turkey. We give kids a special passport and invite them to join in games, puzzles, sports, demonstrations, and arts and crafts relating to these three countries then we sample their cuisines with dinner catered by local restaurants.
Reflections Art Contest
Reflections is a national PTA contest to encourage children to create works of art in six categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Music Composition, Literature, Filmmaking, and Dance Choreography. Students can do the artwork at home or at school, anytime until the deadline, which is usually at the end of October. Contact Karen Ross.
Parents and community members provide fun, hands-on activities and demonstrations of science and engineering concepts. In the past we’ve stroked snakes, ran marbles through mazes, built geodesic domes with toothpicks and gumdrops, and watched a NASA rep. blow up Marshmallow Peeps!
Show your MVCS pride by sporting MVCS spirit wear! The PTA sells kid and adult size shirts and hoodies throughout the year, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about upcoming sales.
The PTA shows our appreciation to teachers by organizing two Teacher Appreciation weeks every year, providing grants for classroom supplies, and organizing volunteers to act as room parents.
MVCS’s Uniform Closet exists to provide our families with FREE uniform items for their students. The gently worn, used or new uniform donations are made available on a first-come, first-served basis dependent upon available inventory. Please contact Isabel Pérez, Magda Leon or Rosa Landeros.
PTA volunteers organize our wonderful school yearbook filled with photos and memories from the school year. School pictures are taken in the fall and yearbooks are available for purchase in May. Contact Kathy Glennon.
